Animal health camp cum-awareness programme organized in Assam's Sonitpur district

A day-long programme of Animal Health Camp-cum-awareness programme in the post-flood situation was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur at Da-Besseria village of the Sonitpur district.

Tezpur: A day-long programme of Animal Health Camp-cum-awareness programme in the post-flood situation was organized on Friday by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur at Da-Besseria village of the Sonitpur district in collaboration with District Veterinary Office, Sonitpur and Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat.

As livestock provide a steady stream of food and revenue for households of rural economy but they get easily infected with various infectious diseases, particularly during flood and post-flood situation, the animal health camp was organized to treat animals and to create awareness among rural people. A total 67 farmers and farm women of Da-Besseria and nearby villages participated in the health camp and 267 livestock were covered where 31 cattle and goats were treated by a veterinary doctor.

Dr Bhrigu Kr. Neog, Junior Extension Specialist, Directorate of Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Dr. Sanjeeb Dutta, Manager, District Poultry Farm, Tezpur, Sonitpur, Dr Gayatri Das, Veterinary Officer, District disease diagnostic laboratory, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department, Sonitpur, Dr Trishna Bhandar Kayastha, Veterinary officer of Gavoru block Veterinary dispensary acted as resource persons in the animal health camp. Angana Sarmah, (i/c) Head of KVK Sonitpur, welcomed all the farmers and farm women and urged the farming community to give regular health care services to their reared animals.
